I have been using a strategy called Mindfulness-based stress reduction, which involves becoming more self-aware of stress-provoking thoughts and replacing worrying or anxiety with a focus on acknowledging and understanding stressful thoughts and emotions.
Training myself to be aware of my thoughts, breathing, heart rate, and other signs of tension has really helped me recognize stress when it begins.
By focusing on awareness of our mental and physical state, we can become an objective observer of our stressful thoughts.
